A Miracle A Day, Day 94

MIRROR.CC.26473288921_86c1832d80_mMIRRORS provide us with the opportunity to see ourselves as others see us.  That first moment when humankind caught a glimpse of self in a still pond must have been an amazing experience.  There would have been an instant of recognition of the self being much like the others in the clan, yet somehow different and distinct.  MIRRORS that reflect our physical appearance give us that opportunity today; a glimpse of the self as a similar, yet unique member of the human experience. Metaphorical MIRRORS provided by other people in our lives reflect characteristics we may not have noticed or owned about ourselves. These are MIRRORS that help us grow and evolve in self-awareness. But there is yet another type of MIRROR that reflects much more than our physical being.  There is an inner MIRROR that gives us a view of who we are beyond our physical appearance.  Because it is within however, does not make it small.  Instead, this is a MIRROR without limit.  It might be called a “cosmic” MIRROR, one which reflects the image and likeness of God in us.  This MIRROR sees through the physical being and beyond the perceived limitations and cultural baggage we might carry.  This MIRROR allows us to see ourselves as a member of an infinite, ever-expanding clan of consciousness, yet a unique and individualized expression in it.  This is a reflection that lifts us into seeing and being all that we are meant to be.  MIRRORS are miraculous and they are all around us and deep within us.

A Miracle A Day, Day 87

history.cc.5352898284_e5e8b41aab_qHISTORY, or rather our ability to access time in a way that acknowledges the past, is a miracle providing us with a perspective of who we have been, who we are and who we are yet to be.  As a high school student I recall being utterly bored in HISTORY classes.  I was not terribly excited about taking HISTORY in college. Until I met Mr. George.  He was a fabulous HISTORY teacher.  He brought HISTORY to life.   As I listened to his stories about the personalities of historical figures I was inspired to know more, to look more deeply into HISTORY.  Reviewing the past, we can see where we have been, what we have done, what we continue to do and what has been lost.  Reviewing HISTORY from a place of Love and Light and Awareness we can choose what we will do to create our collective future.  We can choose to recapture healthy ways of being that have been lost.  We can choose to eliminate ways of being that no longer serve the world as a global community.  Although our HISTORY includes conflict, violence and other things that we wish to eliminate, it also includes love, community, ingenuity and an ever-expanding capacity for spiritual understanding.  These are the things to hold as precious and bring forward with focus and intention into our global community.

strengthSTRENGTH is a miraculous faculty continually evolving and emerging through our life experiences.  STRENGTH appears in a variety of forms such as physical STRENGTH, spiritual STRENGTH, moral STRENGTH and STRENGTH of character.  Each provide the ability to overcome something of substantial size or weight.  Each are cultivated through the choice to exercise them.  But Spiritual STRENGTH differs in that the soul draws to itself experiences that command its development.  Every day, in every way, you are by nature, growing in spiritual STRENGTH and stature. What seems substantial in size and weight today is the catalyst for the spiritual STRENGTH that supports you in your next adventure.

A Miracle A Day, Day 70

TRUST.edpTRUST is a miraculous and remarkable attribute of the human mind given the multitude of experiences that challenge it.  TRUST is the belief that something or someone is reliable and can be counted on.  Placing TRUST in another is believing in a common good that both are willing to manifest.  Through TRUST we build bridges and connections and we affirm the underlying intention of good in our fellow beings.  TRUSTing someone who has broken a TRUST, is evidence of the process of forgiveness and faith in their spiritual nature.  TRUST instills confidence in our own hearts and in the unfolding good of those whom we TRUST.  When we TRUST someone, we are giving both of us an opportunity to be a part of a greater experience of oneness and a cohesive state of being. TRUSTING God goes further, bringing us into a cohesive relationship with the Source of being.  TRUSTing in an invisible Power greater than ourselves, lifts us into a higher consciousness and opens the doors of our minds and hearts to a deeply harmonious state of being.

A Miracle A Day, Day 69

WATERMELON.dreamstimefree_172818WATERMELON.  A juicy, delightful miracle of fruit.  I recall watermelon as the highlight of picnic lunches and family reunions as a child.  It was not an everyday occurrence so it seemed extravagant and especially exciting to see those juicy red slabs ringed with white then green, dotted here and there with large, inedible seeds. Today I think about the relatively small size of those seeds and how they contrast with the enormous fruit that stems from them.  It is miraculous to me that one small seed can produce so much fruit, juice, excitement, and joy.  As I ponder what my next thought might be I consider how like the watermelon seed my thoughts are.  One small seed can produce a day filled with joy and glory.  And one small seed can, if I allow it, produce a day of challenge and struggle.  The WATERMELON is a delightful miracle of pink pulp, sweet juice and seeds.  My thoughts are also a miracle producing experiences enfolded within their nature.  And even more miraculous is my ability to witness and choose the thoughts I hold in mind.  I can see them crop up and choose to plant only the ones that will produce what is joyful, enormous, fruitful, delightful, sweet, and extravagant.  Planting delightful WATERMELON seeds in my mind and in the world today.  Affirming the same for you.

HAIR.CC.FLICKER.9419227780_a54578ce96_m.jpgHAIR in its many colors and textures is a richly unique and self-expressive physical characteristic.  HAIR is miraculous in its ability to protect us from harsh elements and it ability to interpret the environment and communicate a variety to signals to the brain.  It may stand on end when there is a potential for danger or send a ripple of wonder through us at an especially synchronous moment.  HAIR may send a tingling sensation through the entire body when particularly moving words, thoughts or experiences connect us with an awareness of something greater than ourselves.  HAIR is an extension of both the physical and the energetic body.  Metaphysically, HAIR symbolizes our thoughts and the energy patterns we exude. Even those with no hair on their heads emanate strands of thought energy. In Luke 12:7 Jesus says, “But even the hairs of your head are all counted. Do not be afraid …” If we consider HAIR as thoughts, we might find the statement unsettling, as if each thought was predestined by an esoteric God.  However, when we consider God as indwelling and everywhere present, we discover the divine nature within that precedes all thought, all experience, all that we have come to believe about ourselves.  This is a Self that knows our joy. This is a Self that know our pain.  And this is a Self that knew us before we were born, before there was anything but the perfect pattern of wholeness at the very root of being.  Perhaps HAIR is simply the physical manifestation of our reaching out from the very root of our being and perhaps this root is a Self that would be worth getting to know.

A Miracle A Day, Day 60

Blue Sky Day

CLOUDS are a miraculous element of the wondrous ecosystem of planet Earth.  They hold moisture and return it to the planet nurturing plant life, refilling bodies of water and providing a welcome bit of shade when the sun is especially bright.  CLOUDS provide a vehicle for the imagination to stretch and expand. As a child a favorite summer pastime was to lay on a blanket and watch the clouds, picking out the forms of giraffes, ice cream cones and Mickey Mouse.  As they gently floated by, a metamorphous took place.  What started as an ice cream cone gently transformed into a helicopter.  Altered by the wind, the CLOUDS were an ever-changing source of beauty and delight.  I am grateful for these breathtaking images provided by this miracle of nature.  When I see dark clouds, I know they are preparing to feed and bathe the planet so I give thanks for those clouds too.  Like the experiences of life, clouds are ever-changing yet always full of something nourishing; beauty, delight or a much needed shower to cleanse, purify, and quench what thirsts and encourage growth.

A Miracle A Day, Day 49

cloudsTHOUGHT is the miraculous evidence of consciousness. I think, therefore I am.  Or, perhaps the opposite is true.  I am, therefore I think. THOUGHT is more than electrical impulses receiving and interpreting information. THOUGHT is a part of the creative process evident in all that takes shape and form.  Thoughts create our experiences.  Thoughts generate energy that can influence our feelings and behavior, and can even influence those around us.  Have you ever walked into a room and simply known there was an energy to the thoughts of the people in the room?  Thought generates an energy that can be felt, an energy that influences behavior, outcomes and experiences.  Sometimes the energy can almost be felt.  Imagine, if our thoughts were like the jet streams across the sky, creating a trail relative to the energy they carried.  Happy positive thoughts would leave a trail of light and puffy billows that skipped across the sky.  Angry, fearful and hurtful thoughts might leave a trail that was dense, heavy, and not so pretty.  Our thoughts may not be visible, but they do indeed create a stream of energy that enfolds our world.  Happy, loving, caring, nurturing thoughts – happy, loving, caring, nurturing earth.  Angry, judgmental hurtful thoughts … Well you get the picture. Let our thoughts be the miracle they are intended to be and create a network of loving energy encircling our earth.

A Miracle A Day, Day 47

rock climbing.2425052047_37c19eac29_qRELEASE is the ability to let go of something or to cause something to be freed.  What a miraculous feeling it is to RELEASE a fear or thought that has held me captive.  As a new rock climbing enthusiast I can appreciate the physical ability to RELEASE one rock in order to grasp the next.  RELEASING my grip on the hold requires strength and faith.  I must build my muscles so I can reach, push and pull, but I must also trust that my partner and climbing equipment will keep me safe.  With the powers of strength and faith I let go of the rock I have held so tightly and grab the next one, climbing a little higher.   The same is true of my thoughts and fears and long-held limiting beliefs.  I must have strength and faith in the power and presence of Spirit to let go and let God.  As I RELEASE what I have held tightly; fear, judgment, pain, shame or blame, I find that the next and higher thought is right there within my grasp and I climb a little higher in mind and Spirit.  Yes, RELEASE is a miraculous quality of both the human experience and the spiritual evolution of my highest Self.

A Miracle A Day, Day 42

wellThe WELLSPRING within is the miracle of Oneness with Spirit, the source of Life, Harmony and Joy.  Deep within each of us is a place where joy never ceases, where peace and harmony are the constant state of being.  When we draw on this invisible Source, we access the Water of Life that Jesus spoke of to the Samaritan woman at the well.   This powerful conversation is often understood as Jesus’ demonstration of inclusiveness.  Although it is certainly that, the conversation reveals much more.  Ultimately, this conversation reveals a whole new perspective of God as Spirit, as comforter, as the quencher of all thirst. As we come to understand that the Christ Mind that was in Jesus is also in each of us we find that the WELLSPRING that quenches all thirst is within us and it never runs dry. This is the miracle we will explore at tonight’s Meditation and Metaphysical Musings service at Unity of Livonia at 7:00 pm.  Come rest awhile in the WELLSPRING within and experience the miracle within you.
